When we speak of energy vampires we’re not alluding to Twilight's teenage heart throb, Edward Cullen. Instead, we’re speaking of that unassuming person, when in their presence, drains our energy. If you’ve ever experienced this, you may have fallen victim to an energy vampire.
Now keep in mind, these vampires are not aware of the effect they have on others. In fact, more often than not, we’re not even mindful that someone else is responsible for our drained energy. We usually shrug it off, blaming it on a long trying day.
Energy vampires need others to draw energy from because they’re emotionally, physically or spiritually unhappy. Their victims are usually anyone willing to give them the time of day. Because of their never ending feelings of abandonment, rejection or dissatisfaction with their lives, they seek constant reassurance. Their modus operandi is to withdraw from other’s emotional bank account without any intention of ever making a deposit.
One sure fire way of keeping this from ever happening is to avoid all contact with these emotional drainers. However, unless you decide to totally withdraw from society, that's highly improbable. Nevertheless, there are ways to protect yourself when in their presence.
- Become aware of who they are, and limit your time in their company.
- Don't let them suck you into their drama. Listen quietly, respectfully acknowledge their pain, and move on.
- Don't try to fix their problems. They own them, and it's theirs to fix.
- When they play the blame game, and you're it, politely cut them off and walk away.
- When in their presence, surround yourself with positive energy.

Yep! Stay away from them. I know!
OMG yes! I have been talking about this for years. I just left a job- in this economy because my boss was such an insecure, self serving vampire. I had so much energy, focus and drive after I left. Good job!
Reality Check... as with the stupid economy, those who squander get a free bail out. At the expense of everyone else. Maybe you should call an 'Energy Vampire' and 'Energy Vampire Bat'? When they've sucked the fun from one person, they flutter off and suck on someone else. Beware the fluttering.
BTW who's the dog?
And beware the 'Dot' Vampire... These are people who feel hard done by if they've not gotten ten-thousand friends on Facebook or, have bled out their 'issues' on Twitter by lunchtime? Dot Vampires don't subvert one person into feeding their neurosis, they muster the army of the internet!
On Flickr, for example, someone posts photos of themself, every day, with headings like, "I feel so low today" or "So depressed today". Within 12 hours she has hundreds of replies like, "you are an amazing person" and "you *are* the greatest". Must be a drug for them?
Surely, with all of those computers switched on around the world responding to the 'needy professional victim', dot vampires are also real *energy* vampires?
I digress. Keep the faith and keep the dog away from sheep ;-)
Spread the word friends, Energy Vampires are real, they are deadly and they can kill.
